Writing Update on The Other

As of this morning, my first draft of The Other is sitting at 43,800 words. As I mentioned in a previous post, this novel is divided into three segments. Those segments are "Walls," "Boundaries," and "Trust." As of this morning, both "Walls" and "Boundaries" are now complete.

It feels wonderful to be writing again. I don't think my creative energy has been this high since I was working on Schrödinger's City. Additionally, I am coming up on a protracted period of being able to focus on my writing. My goal for the next week is to finish up the first draft of The Other and start working on my next novel The Ghost King.

The Ghost King is also a political novel, but with a different inflection than The Other. My goal with The Other was to capture our post-Trump political moment in science fiction form. My goal with The Ghost King is to explore the long history of liberalism through the lens of a fantasy world.

I am currently toying with the idea of a March 2020 release for The Other and a March 2021 release for The Ghost King. As with any publication planning that far out, those details are subject to change.
